Shezad Dawood - If I Should Fall from the Grace of God |
Nov 24,2007 - Jan 20,2008,
Paradise Row, www.paradiserow.com, London
Private view: Friday 23 November 2007 Dinner: Thursday 22 November 2007 Talk/Brunch: Saturday, 19 January 2008, 12 – 2 pm In his first major London solo show Shezad Dawood presents a major new series of sculptural works, using neon, paper and tumbleweeds, relating to the Islamic tradition of the ‘99 Names of God’. The works attempt to find a point of reconciliation between two seemingly diametrically opposed cultures, that of Islamic spiritualism and the myths and values of the American Wild West, especially as articulated in The Western film tradition. The works propose the formlessness of the desert and the empty wilderness, key elements in both cultures, as a place where such reconciliation may be found.
